TITLE: “Corporate acquisitions and access to entrepreneurial financing in the post-accession period”

WHERE: Jean Monnet Interuniversity Centre of Excellence Opatija (Croatia)

WHEN: 5 - 6 October 2015

WHO: Conference is organised by the Institute of Company and Financial Law of the Faculty of Law, University of Rijeka, in cooperation with Croatian Association of Corporate Lawyers and under the auspices of the Croatian Financial Services Supervisory Agency. This conference is one of the activities within the research project “Legal Aspects of Corporate Acquisition and Knowledge-Driven Company Restructuring”, funded by the Croatian Science Foundation.

WHOM: The conference is aimed at CEOs, in-house lawyers, attorneys-at-law, public notaries, young entrepreneurs, consultants, investors and other stakeholders and participants in the process of  entrepreneurial financing and corporate acquisitions.

WHY: After joining the EU internal market, Croatian companies are facing the challenge of corporate regrouping through acquisitions and restructurings. Cross-border and/or domestic corporate mobility may vary depending on the chosen legal model. In making this choice, a company is confronted with assessment of both economic and legal aspects.

WHAT: The conference speakers will address issues relevant to the acquisition modelling, such as merger taxation, tax incentives in choosing business location, analysis of regional cross-border acquisitions and takeovers of companies listed on the Croatian Stock Exchange. In the context of entrepreneurial financing, alternative models of financing inherent to innovative companies will be in the focus, with particular emphasis on the intellectual property aspects and start-up financing. It is expected that the benefits and shortcomings of available models would be identified and analysed, especially as regards their interplay with financial services providers and the state. The programme sections are:

• Innovative Companies & Access to Capital

• Acquisition Modelling – Taxation Issues and Human Working Capital

• Corporate Mobility & Regrouping
